The Four-Factor Model
Every coin on GradeMyAsset is scored across four data-driven factors. Each factor’s weight reflects how much GMA’s formula counts it. The combined score maps to a letter grade using the same A+ to F scale you know from school.
1. Market Capitalization
35% weight
Market cap is the total value of all coins in circulation (price × coins in circulation). Larger market caps often go with wider adoption, easier trading, and steadier prices. Many holders value coins for reasons this factor doesn’t measure, which is why it is one factor of four.
We measure the ratio of 24-hour trading volume to market cap. A healthy ratio means the asset is actively traded relative to its size — a sign of genuine market interest rather than a stagnant price.
A coin's rank by market cap among all cryptocurrencies globally. Being ranked #1 (Bitcoin) or #2 (Ethereum) carries far more significance than being ranked #500. Rank reflects the market's collective confidence in an asset.
24-hour price change reflects short-term market sentiment. Strong positive momentum can signal accumulation or news-driven interest. Negative momentum may signal selling pressure or market concern. This is the lowest-weighted factor intentionally — short-term price swings are noisy signals.
All market data (price, market cap, volume, rank) is sourced from the CoinGecko API. Prices update every few minutes. GradeMyAsset is not affiliated with or endorsed by CoinGecko.

What Our Grade Doesn’t Measure
A GMA grade describes four pieces of market data, and nothing else. It does not measure:
A project’s technology or how well its code works
The team behind it, or its community
How people actually use the coin in the real world
Whether a project is honest. A high grade is not proof a project is safe, and a low grade is not proof of fraud.
Whether a coin fits your goals, timeline, or risk tolerance
People weigh these things very differently. Some care most about market cap, and others hardly consider it. Use the grade as one data point next to your own research.
